Volcanic eruptions cause humanitarian crises. We have carefully chosen four areas recently impacted by volcanic activity to research. Each has distinct cultures, climates, levels of development, public health influence and resources, which will allow us to assess behavioral/psychological, cultural and environmental factors affecting the use of respiratory protection during ashfall. We will work with local academic partners at:

• Popocatepetl Volcano, Mexico
• Merapi volcano, Indonesia
